so this is what i got for the ring exchange, designed by the lovely Jane mcalinden.
Its based on the form of a gyroscope and the outer and two inner circles are designed to move, encouraging the wearer to interact with the piece.
final piece from my research project, made from a roll of found linoleum…
it took a while to make and there were a few accidents with the scalpel.

I’m working on a design for the ring exchange…
‘a little piece of landscape’ each ring is unique and personal to the wearer, somewhere that represents a sense of belonging . thinking of using silver and enamel

I’m going to be taking part in a ring exchange
The idea is to design and write instructions for making a ring, your design will be given to another jeweler to make and in turn you’ll be given someone elses design…..

Just finished helping get together a presentation for a post consumer focused business proposal. working together with Claire Grant, Ross Douglas, Sarah Greenwood, Scarlet Erskine, Amy Fitzpatrick and Gillian Berry we developed the idea of SHUFFLE , an online skills sharing site aimed at local designers and graduates. Members don’t use money but instead trade in points, helping those with lower incomes and encouraging people to keep trading within the community.
The site is designed so that after paying a small subscription fee members can build up a profile page, uploading examples of their work and listing the skills they can offer. Users are able to contact designers individually, search for categories or post an advertisement of what they need. Payment (points) is arranged by the members. Negative as well as positive credit is allowed to encourage people to keep using the service. The site tries to keep everything as transparent as possible, members funds are displayed on their profile page and everyone is given a star rating.
The initial costs of setting up the site should be fairly low, the subscription fees would cover the costs of upkeep, advertising and some Shuffle events like exhibitions and opportunities for local artists and designers to get together and make new contacts.

Our brief for this project was to make a piece inspired by another artist, my jeweler was Shari Pierce.
She uses a lot of non-precious materials and found objects and she also likes to document her work, so I decided to have a wander round Dundee to see what I could find.

For our new project ‘domestic paradise’ I’ve been looking at Djurdjica Kesic a Yugoslavian artist now based in Australia. I like the materials she uses and how she documents her work process.
